Hanley Ramirez Contract & Salary: Huge Deal With Red Sox

Nine years to the day after the Red Sox traded Hanley Ramirez to the Marlins, reports are swirling that the veteran infielder is back in Boston, working to finalize a 5-year, $90 million deal with the organization that drafted and developed him.

Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported the news Sunday night.

Speculation swirled after the Ramirez-to-Boston reports emerged that the deal meant the Red Sox were backing away from trying to sign free agent Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval.

But in a bombshell development that shows just how aggressive Boston is being in the wake of its second last-place finish in three years, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reported Monday morning that Sandoval is on the verge of signing a 5-year deal in the $100 million range to join Ramirez.

Ramirez has played the majority of his career at shortstop, with some time spent at third base while with the Dodgers. With the presence of Xander Bogaerts at short and Sanoval at third, Ramirez will likely move to the outfield, with a trade of Yoenis Cespedes appearing more likely.

The Red Sox have not commented yet on the reports about Ramirez or Sandoval.
