In a thrilling finish in Central Park, Kenya’s Wilson Kipsang pulled away from Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia to win his first New York City Marathon on Sunday in 2:10:59. Watch the video of the finish above.
Kipsang, 32, set the world marathon record at the Berlin Marathon in 2013 and won a Silver medal at the London Olympics in 2012. He also won the 2014 London Marathon in 2:04:29, but he had never run the New York race until this weekend.
Kipsang and Desisa were running side-by-side into the final half mile before Kipsang pulled away. Gebra Gebramariam of Ethiopia came in third, with American Meb Keflezighi finishing fourth. Two-time defending champion Geoffrey Mutai finished a disappointing sixth.
