Golden Boy Promotions announced today that Randy Caballero will make the first defense of his IBF bantamweight title on February 27 against Mexican Alberto Guevara in Fantasy Springs Casino in Palm Springs, California.
“The fans at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino have watched Randy Caballero grow up as a fighter, so after he won a world title, our first order of business was bringing his first title defense back here,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.
Caballero (22-0, 13KOs) battered Kohei Oba to an eighth-round knockout stoppage at the Central Gym, Japan, in his first fight outside of his native California. He next travelled to Monte Carlo to beat Stuart Hall and lift the vacant IBF bantamweight title.
Caballero returns to his home turf to put his unblemished record on the line against workingman pugilist Alberto “Metro” Guevara (18-2, 6 KOs).
“This is a night I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and I always said that the only thing better than winning a world title at home would be defending it there,” Caballero said. “I’m going to be tough and impress my fans at Fantasy Springs.”

Guevara comes to this fight looking to avenge his ninth-round knockout defeat at the hands of Shinsuke Yamanaka in 2013. Prior to that, Guevara had out-boxed an undefeated Jonathan Vidal to win the WBC Silver bantamweight title.
“Randy Caballero is a good, young champion and he’s fighting in his backyard, but I feel like this is my time,” Guevara said. “I like being the underdog, and that will make my victory sweeter on February 27.”
“It’s going to be a great night and a celebration of an exciting young champion,” De La Hoya said. “But Alberto Guevara knows what it’s going to take to beat Caballero, and he’s going to give everything he has to take the title.”
The fight will be broadcast by FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes at 10:30PM EST
