UCLA Highlights
Kansas State Highlights
Heavy’s Pick
ULCA and Kansas State have dual-threat quarterbacks with nearly identical numbers. Jake Waters of K-State has thrown for 3,163 yards with 20 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, and has added 471 and 8 scores on the ground. The Bruins’ Brett Hundley has gone for 3,019 yards with 21 TDs and 5 INTs in the air and 548 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns.
Tyler Lockett and Curry Sexton have combined for 162 receptions and 2,406 yards for the Wildcats and could pose some problems for the UCLA defense, which gives up 243 pass yards per game, 86th in the FBS.
Paul Perkins ran for nearly 1,400 yards for UCLA, but could find the sledding tough against a Kansas State rush D ranked in the top 25 nationally.
If we’ve learned anything from the bowl season, it’s offense rules. I mean, have you seen the score of some of these games? Defenses, even the best ones (Ole Miss, anyone?), are getting steamrolled. Why will this game be any different? It won’t.
And right now, Waters is playing lights out, averaging 331 passing yards over the past 3. Don’t expect the Bruins to have an answer for him, Lockett and Sexton.
