Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Chris Matthews was one of the major contributors in Super Bowl XLIX. He was also the Seahawk that recovered the onside kick in the 2015 NFC Championship Game.

Matthews had a hard road to the NFL, having to prove himself in multiple leagues and on multiple teams before finding a spot in Seattle. It is unknown if he’s currently dating somebody, but after today, he will surely be in demand on the “open market.”

1. Matthews Attended College at Kentucky

Matthews attended Kentucky and was a Wildcat from 2008-11.


2. Because of the Percy Harvin Trade, Matthews Emerged as an Option in Seattle

In the offseason, the Seahawks lost Golden Tate to Seattle, and lost Percy Harvin in a mid-season trade to the New York Jets. The team’s top two receivers were Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse.


3. Matthews Signed As An Undrafted Free Agent in 2011

In 2011, Matthews signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent. He didn’t stick, and was released shortly before the start of the season, but would later return to the NFL.


4. Matthews Played 2 seasons in the Canandian Football League

Matthews played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League for two seasons. Chris Matthews had an extraordinary 2012 season; his rookie year in the CFL. He played in all 18 games of the regular season, and piled up 1,192 yards and 7 touchdowns en route to winning the 2012 CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award.[1]


5. Matthews Broke Out in Super Bowl XLIX

Matthews had two huge 1st-half catches in Super Bowl XLIX for the Seahawks. One set the Seahawks up for their 1st touchdown of the game and the other was their 2nd touchdown of the game.
