A critical matchup in the English Premier League headlines the Sunday schedule in Europe. Liverpool sits fifth in the table after conceding only four out of 30 points in the Premier League since the beginning of 2015. Manchester United has been in the top four for a majority of the season and looks to keep a hold on a return bid to the Champions League.
A lot of the difference in Liverpool’s season has been their change to three in defense, which began in their 3-0 loss at Old Trafford on December 13th, 2014. Liverpool put a substantial amount of shots on goal in that game, nine, and kept up with the pace of play in the game, even if they lost the possession battle 55-45 percent. Directly after that game, they had three games before the New Year, tying Arsenal before edging Burnley and thrashing Swansea. Since then, Liverpool has moved from 8th to 5th in the table and is looking to move into Champions League qualification with a victory over Manchester United, who hold only a two point lead on Liverpool.
Manchester United, on the other hand, is working to return to the Champions League after a one year absense and is coming off of a drubbing of Tottenham. Manchester United has scored two or more goals in five of their last ten games. They are without star forward Robin Van Persie, who may return to training soon:
