Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia won the men’s elite title in the 119th Boston Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 17 seconds.
Desisa also won the 2013 race just hours before a pair of bombs exploded at the finish line. The bombs killed 3 and the Ethiopian returned after the attacks to donate his medal in memory of the victims.
Fellow countryman Yemane Adhane Tsegay (2:09:48) and Kenyan Wilson Chebet (2:10:22) were second and third, respectively.
Defending champion Keflezighi of the United State finished 8th at 2:12:42.
Kenyan Caroline Rotich won the women’s race in 2:24:55. It’s her first victory in Boston.
American Desiree Linden finished fourth and Shalane Flanagan of the U.S. was 9th in 2:27:47.
American Tatyana McFadden won her third straight women’s wheelchair race in an unofficial 1:52.54. McFadden, 25, is the reigning champion of the Chicago, New York City and London marathons.
Switzerland’s Marcel Hug won the men’s wheelchair race in 1:29:53.
