Trainer Todd Pletcher started with 4 horses in the 2015 Kentucky Derby, but Stanford has been scratched.
His three horses competing in the 141st Run for the Roses are Materiality, Carpe Diem and Itsaknockout.
Pletcher has 3 Triple Crown wins, including the 2010 Derby with Super Saver.
2. His Father Is Afleet Alex
Materiality comes from great Pedigree as his sire was Afleet Alex.
Afleet Alex won the 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
His mother is Wildwood Flower, who came in third in 2 races in 2004.
3. Materiality Has a New Jockey For the Derby
Javier Castellano will be Materiality’s jockey for the Kentucky Derby.
But John Velazquez had been riding the colt in his earlier races. Velazquez is riding Carpe Diem in Saturday’s Derby. Carpe Diem is another Pletcher horse.
4. The Colt Is Unbeaten
Materiality has raced just 3 times, but has won them all.
The colt has won the Besilu Stables Florida Derby (Gr. 1), the Islamorada Handicap and the Maiden Special Weight – all at Gulfstream Park this year.
