WATCH: Steven Gerrard Says Goodbye to Anfield

On May 16, 2015, during a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace, Steven Gerrard capped his amazing 17-year career with Liverpool at Anfield Stadium. The Liverpool captain and midfielder may have not had the ideal ending to his Anfield career, even though Liverpool still sits fifth in the table and is a safe bet for the Europa League in 2015-2016, but the Liverpool faithful came out to support their departing captain.

The day began with Gerrard coming out with his daughters, Lilly-Ella, Lourdes, and Lexie, to appreciate Anfield one more time:

After the game, it ended with the entire Liverpool team doning the Red #8 of their captain:

Many have poured out tributes for Gerrard, from teammate Mario Balotelli:

Foe Andrea Pirlo, who faced Gerrard in the 2007 Champions League final won by AC Milan:

A fan video says it best, showing all of the greats of Anfield next to the captain, before showing Gerrard leaving the picture:

Steven Gerrard put on the Liverpool jersey 688 times, 179 times he scored, and since October 15, 2003, he has been Liverpool’s captain; if he does not play against Stoke City at Britannia Stadium on May 24, that historic career will end.
