For Canada head coach John Herdman, there will be just a little bit of extra motivation on Thursday night.
That’s because Canada will take on New Zealand, who Herdman coached in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. The Canadian players surely won’t need any extra motivation playing in the world’s biggest tournament in front of their home country, but you can bet Herdman will want to knock off the Football Ferns.
This should be a tightly-contested match. Canada needed an injury-time penalty from legend Christine Sinclair to grab three points in the opener against China, while New Zealand was done in by a wonderstrike from Netherlands’ Lieke Martens but otherwise played well.
