Aston Villa finished 17th in the English Premier League in 2014-2015, but were runners up in the FA Cup, although they were humbled 4-0 by Arsenal in the final. Villa were in good form at the beginning of the season, beating Stoke City and Liverpool in early season matches and earning a draw against Southampton and Manchester United. The second half, though, was a different story, as Villa were humbled by both Southampton and Arsenal, barely staying alive in the English Premier League. Villa have been active on the transfer marketing, adding Jordan Ayew, Jordan Amavi, and Jordan Veretout from France, goal scorer Rudy Gestede, and veteran Micah Richards, but have also lost two of their best players in the offseason, seeing Christian Benteke move to Liverpool and Fabian Delph move to Manchester City.
Aston Villa will have a soft beginning of the season, hosting Manchester United in the second match day but also playing Bournemouth, Sunderland, and West Bromwich Albion. The toughest stretch of the season runs from September 26 to November 7, where Aston Villa travels to Liverpool, hosts Stoke, travels to Chelsea, hosts Swansea, travels to Tottenham, and then hosts Manchester City. Aston Villa caps their schedule with an away fixture against FA Cup final foes Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in London.
