The San Francisco 49ers begin their reconstruction project at NRG Stadium Saturday night against the Texans. They will use this opportunity to see who will fill the role of departed veterans like Patrick Willis, Frank Gore, and Justin Smith. It’s also the debut of Niners head coach Jim Tomsula, who will attempt to fill the shoes left behind by Jim Harbaugh.
Across the sidelines will be the Houston Texans, accompanied by an army of HBO camera teams. Hard Knocks debuted on Tuesday, and viewers will recognize rookies that will get significant time in Friday’s game. Houston will also test out several replacements for running back Arian Foster, who required groin surgery earlier this month. Alfred Blue is next on the depth chart, but expect John Grimes and Kenny Hilliard to see plenty of action.
