South Carolina has had Georgia’s number recently, winning four of the last five head-to-head matchups, but this year looks to be much different.
No. 7 Georgia (2-0) still has some question marks under center where Virginia transfer Greyson Lambert has underwhelmed, but the Bulldogs have yet to turn the ball over, Heisman candidate running back Nick Chubb has looked unstoppable and the defense has made big plays in both of the team’s opening contests.
South Carolina, meanwhile, appears to be traveling in the opposite direction. The Gamecocks struggled against in-state rival North Carolina in Week 1 then fell at home to Kentucky last weekend, a result that gave the Wildcats their first road victory in 23 games. After the injury to Connor Mitch, the team’s starting quarterback is Perry Orth, a former walk-on who earned his scholarship about a month ago.
In a difficult road environment against a defense that forced three interceptions and three sacks last week, Orth and the Gamecocks are 16-point underdogs.
