The Steelers have suffered their first major injury of the season, and it’s the worst possible victim. Ben Roethlisberger was hit below the knee Sunday against St. Louis, and had to be carted to the locker room. Even if the damage isn’t season-ending, there’s a good chance he won’t be available for Thursday Night Football against divsion-rival Baltimore.
So here he comes. Mike Vick will be back in the NFL.
Vick wasn’t terrible in relief of Roethlisberger, finishing 5/6 for 38 yards and securing the win for Pittsburgh. With the Steelers, Vick has more weapons around him than at any previous point in his career, but has only studied the Steelers offense since signing one month ago.
Vick hasn’t had a winning record as a starter since 2011, when he went 7-6 in 13 starts with the Eagles.
Look, everyone knows what Vick brings to the terrible. A decent ball, a quick release, and a guaranteed 1-4 turnovers. Vick should rely on Le’Veon Bell, who looked solid racking up over 130 total yards Sunday.
Do you need a quarterback? If you’re struggling with that roster spot this season, he may be a wait-and-see add. Steelers-Ravens games are rarely high-scoring affairs, so don’t expect Vick to tear anything up on Thursday.
