When the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) take on the St. Louis Rams (1-1) next Sunday, it will be a case of unstoppable force vs. immovable object.
The former would be Pittsburgh’s offense. Led by the uncontainable connection of Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown, the Steelers have poured on 32.0 points and 458.5 yards per game. Their 7.8 yards per play is best in the NFL and more than a full yard better than the second-best Arizona Cardinals, and they’ve done it without Le’Veon Bell, who returns for this matchup.
St. Louis, though, counters with a defense that is allowing just 4.9 yards per play and is ranked second overall by Pro Football Focus’ grades through two weeks. Aaron Donald, arguably the most disruptive defensive tackle in the league, leads a defensive line that manhandled Seattle the last time the Rams were at home.
This one figures to come down to who is better able to impose their particular style, making it difficult to predict. Oddsmakers tend to agree, favoring the road Steelers by only a point-and-a-half. In some places, the game is a pick ’em.
