Already clicking on offense, the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) return running back Le’Veon Bell to the lineup for this week’s matchup against the St. Louis Rams (1-1).
Through two games, Mike Tomlin’s squad is first in the NFL in total yards (917), first in yards per play (7.8), fourth in turnover percentage (5.0) and second in Football Outsiders’ offensive efficiency rankings.
It may not seem possible to get an upgrade at this point, but they’re getting exactly that. While DeAngelo Williams has played well, Bell is arguably the most explosive back in the league. He tallied 2,215 total yards from scrimmage last year at 5.9 yards per clip, and if he plays that well again, it’s difficult to imagine anyone slowing down this offense.
That said, the Rams present an intriguing challenge for one of the league’s most dangerous attacks. Led by Robert Quinn and Aaron Donald, the most dominant defensive end-defensive tackle combo in the league, St. Louis features a defensive line that can force any offense out of rhythm with its pressure.
The Steelers want to score as quick as possible. The Rams want to control the ball and turn this into a low-scoring, physical battle. This will be a highly compelling contrast of styles.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on CBS in Pittsburgh and St. Louis, as well as other select areas throughout the country. Click here for a complete coverage map to see what game is being televised in your market. If you can’t get to a TV, here’s how to watch online and on mobile:
