Former NBA basketball player Lamar Odom was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon at a brothel in Nevada. He was rushed to a hospital and is said to be fighting for his life.
Odom, 35, has two living children, Destiny, 17, and Lamar Jr., 13.
His son, Jayden, died in 2006 when he was 6 months old. He had all three children with his ex-girlfriend, Liza Morales. Jayden Odom died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) while sleeping in his crib, according to an ESPN article from the time. He was born on December 15, 2005, and died on June 29.
Odom did not have any children with his ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian.
He rarely talked about his son’s death, but in 2011 he told the Los Angeles Times, “Death always seems to be around me. I’ve been burying people for a long time. When I had to bury my child, I probably didn’t start grieving until a year and a half later. I think the effects of seeing [my cousin] die … it beat me down. I consider myself a little weak. I thought I was breaking down mentally. I’m doing a lot of reflecting.”
Odom’s mother, Cathy Mercer, died of colon cancer when he was 12, and his grandmother, Mildred Mercer, who raised him, died in 2004.
He recently dealt with death again when his close friend Jamie Sangouthai, died of a heroin overdose in June.
