Newcastle led Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the 40th minute of Saturday’s Premier League encounter, searching for their first win of the season after a troubling start.
Then Sergio Aguero happened.
The Argentine fired five goals in a stunning stretch bridging the first and second halves. His first came before halftime and knotted the match at 1-1, then he went on to score four goals in 13 minutes early in the second half. By the time the damage was done, City led 6-1.
Aguero was then substituted to the relief of the Newcastle faithful.
He’s done nothing but score goals since moving from Atletico Madrid in 2011. He’s fired 84 Premier League goals in three-plus seasons. He was in a bit of a drought prior to Saturday, though, with one goal from seven matches thus far. He did score a crucial winner in City’s Champions League match with Borussia Monchengladbach in midweek.
Aguero, 27, was the top scorer in the Premier League last season with 26 goals.
Robert Lewandowski accomplished the feat for Bayern Munich last month in a Bundesliga fixture; he scored five goals in nine minutes.
