For the first time this season, college football fans will get their first insight into the College Football Playoff rankings. The rankings, which are determined by the CFB Selection Committee, will be released every Tuesday night live on ESPN starting tonight.
The committee’s biggest challenge at this point in the season is deciding which undefeated teams are deserving of a top-four position. The top seven teams in the most recent AP Poll are all without a loss, complicating things at the top of the rankings. That could get a little clearer by next week, as 8-0 LSU is heading to Tuscaloosa this weekend.
Most interesting will be where the lower-tier undefeated teams shake out. Iowa, Memphis, and Houston are all without a loss, but trail more established programs like Notre Dame and Stanford in recent polls. Where these teams lie in tonight’s rankings could give insight as to how the committee will prioritize teams moving forward.
