Oh, NFC East, you’re not a very good division. But, man, are your rivalry games set up to be interesting.
The New York Giants head to Washington to take on the Redskins in a game that, somehow, is a battle for first place in the division. It might not be the prettiest game, but it will be a battle between two teams that are not particularly fond of each other.
The Giants come into the Sunday afternoon tilt as 2.5-point favorites on the road, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. fresh off a bye week. Of course, the week before that Big Blue dropped yet another disappointing final-second loss, this time falling to the still-undefeated New England Patriots. On the plus side (if there is a plus side to a loss) the Giants gave New England, perhaps, its biggest scare of the season. So, there is that.
There’s also a very good reason to bet on New York this week. Odell Beckham, Jr. The Giants wide receiver won’t face too much defensive pressure because Washington, simply, does’t have much of a secondary left.
Beckham has 19 catches for 222 yards and four touchdowns already against the Redskins and now, just days after top cornerback Chris Culliver’s season ended with a serious knee injury, Washington is going to have to rely on Bashaud Breeland or DeAngelo Hall. That’s not the best news if you’re a Redskins fan. Don’t be surprised if Eli Manning just keeps throwing at Beckham. Constantly.
Of course, there’s some betting history to go along with that New York-based confidence. The G-Men are 5-0 SU and ATS in the last five games against the Redskins and, according to OddsShark, are 6-1 SU i their last seven games coming off the bye.
On the flip side, things don’t look too good for Washington.
First of all, the Redskins are coming off a 44-16 blowout loss to the Carolina Panthers last week and, despite a solid 4-1 record at home this year, are just 6-1 SU in their last 18 games. Add into the mix that Washington is 4-8 ATS in its last 12 games at home and the odds don’t quite seem to support this squad.
The total for Sunday afternoon’s New York and Washington divisional matchup is set 47 points according to the sportsbooks. The total has gone OVER in five of the Giants last six games and OVER in seven of the last 10 games on the road. Washington is on the same wavelength as well. The total has gone OVER in four of the Redskins last five games.
The OddsShark computer is predicting a 25.1 – 27.4 Washington victory.
