The most intriguing match of the Premier League week is at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea start a new chapter in their club’s history without Jose Mourinho at the bench.
The club is in talks to bring in former Netherlands manager Guus Hiddink, who is currently unemployed. Hiddink previously served as interim manager in 2009, but has never held the position with the club full-time. For now, coaches Steve Holland and Eddie Newton will oversee Chelsea’ fixture today, one that could potentially see them fall to the relegation zone with another poor result.
Making matters worse at Chelsea is the fitness of the club. Eden Hazard walked off the pitch in Mourinho’s final game, and his status is uncertain after being diagnosed with a hip injury.
As far down the table as Chelsea is, they’re still faring better than Sunderland. Sam Allardyce’s club holds just 12 points through 16 matches, second-worst in BPL.
