The Cardinals NFL franchise was founded in 1898, and holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously run professional football franchise in the nation. Having started in Chicago before relocating to St. Louis in 1960 and then again moving to Arizona in 1988, has this historical franchise ever won a Super Bowl?
The Cardinals have only been to two NFC Championship Game twice counting this season’s appearance. Its only other appearance was in 2009, a 32-25 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. That was their only appearance in the Super Bowl to date.
The Cardinals lost Super Bowl XLIII 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The starting quarterback in the game for Arizona was Kurt Warner, and the game was best remembered for a 16-point fourth quarter by the Cardinals to take the lead, only to have Santonio Holmes of the Steelers haul in a Ben Roethlisberger touchdown grab with just seconds remaining to give the Steelers the win.
As you can see, Arizona and its Cardinals are ready to capture their second NFC Championship trophy on Sunday.
