WWE Royal Rumble 2016: Reactions & Review

Here’s our final review of WWE Royal Rumble 2016!

Darren Young and Damien Sandow vs. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) vs. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) vs. Mark Henry and Jack Swagger (Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Match For Two Spots in The Royal Rumble Match

Reactions: To be quite honest with you all, the crowd was even more entertaining than the match itself. Sandow is still adored by the WWE Universe and those old school wrestling fans love brining up Mark Henry’s “Sexual Chocolate” past. This Fatal-Four Way bout had some fun moments throughout, but it served as nothing more than your usual Kickoff pre-match presentation. It was decent while it lasted and at least we got to see The Dudley Boyz break out their 3D. The last few moments were utter chaos, which led to the shocking winners. Swagger and Henry? Strange bedfellows these two are.

Rating: 2 out of 5 Stars

Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Kevin Owens (Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Reactions: Ambrose and Owens have developed quite the rivalry and chemistry in the ring, haven’t they? Want more proof of that proclamation? Make sure you check out this Last Man Standing match if you missed it. Both men pulled out their best moves and plenty of under-the-ring hardware during this no-holds-barred brawl. The crowd (and us) came alive during the bigger moments involving both Superstars crashing through tables. The emotion that builds in most Last Man Standing Matches was prevalent here, as we were on the edge of our seat as both men fought to get back to their feet. There were moments where the action died down for far too long, though. The awesome table finish still did a great job of making this title match an excellent opener.

Rating: 3 & a Half out of 5 Stars

The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and/or Xavier Woods) (c) vs. The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) (WWE Tag Team Championship)

Reactions: It was so dope to see Xavier Woods debut his newest version of the lovable trombone, Francesca. We’ve watched these teams battle countless times and they’ve always managed to put on a fun sprint. This was the case once again here with this Tag Team Championship encounter. The crowd seemed to be more behind The New Day instead of The Usos (which should come as no surprise). The beginning portions of this match followed the formula both teams usually show us (Woods’ outside Tornado DDT was cool as hell, though). The match finally got some life into it near the middle and ending stretches of the match. Jimmy’s splash from the top barricade and Big E’s spear through the middle rope to Jey were cool moments. There were a few sloppy exchanges between both teams at some points, but overall this match was okay.

Rating: 2 & a Half out of 5 Stars
