As good as the German national team has been in recent memory, a victory over Italy has eluded them for some time. It’s been 21 years since the Germans last bested the Azzurri, and it would be a good time for the reigning World Cup champions to get their first win since 1995. Germany collapsed late to lose to England in their last friendly, falling 3-2 on an extra time goal by Eric Dier.
Italy was impressive in their friendly last week, scoring early but conceding to draw with Spain. Italy has scored some huge victories over Germany in recent memory, including the 2012 EURO semifinal. Antonio Conte will likely continue to develop the 3-4-3 formation he used against Spain, with Gianluigi Buffon once again in goal. Buffon is making his return to Allianz Arena, having been there for Juventus’ Champions League exit to Bayern Munich earlier in March.
