There’s always one during March Madness.
One player from a small school. One that the bigger programs might have overlooked. The player that nobody knows one day, but everybody is talking about the next.
That player for 2016 could be Iona senior guard A.J. English. The Gaels are an eight-point underdog today against Iowa State, who feature an unheralded star player of their own.

Game Preview: Iona may have won eight straight games heading into today, but the MAAC champions have hardly been tested on their way to March Madness. The Gaels have beaten Monmouth twice during their unbeaten run, but they’ve been beaten by the likes of Siena, Fairfield and Rider this season.
Iowa State have played a tough schedule, and stumbled in the second half of the season. Georges Niang should have his way with the Iona defense, but the Gaels could simply outshoot ISU if they get hot. The Cyclones have played well in their first season without Fred Hoiberg, but this is still the same team that was upset by UAB in the first round last season.
If there is one thing that could separate these teams, it could be their road performance. The Cyclones were 6-8 away from Ames this season and 3-7 in the Big 12, while Iona went 10-7 on the road.
