With surprising home losses to the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves in the last week, the Warriors (69-9) now need to go perfect to set the wins record.
That’s only four games, which is hardly impossible for the Dubs, but a pair of games against the Spurs will make setting history decidedly more difficult.
The last time these two teams met, San Antonio’s defense controlled the game, limiting Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to 11-of-38 shooting (2-of-19 from beyond the arc) en route to an impressive 87-79 victory.
Of course, as both teams prepare for the postseason, there’s always the question of how much the starters will play, if at all, but it seems as though the Spurs won’t be resting anyone down the stretch.
With the Warriors chasing history, and the Spurs chasing 70 wins, there’s a good chance this one feels a lot like a playoff game.
