All eyes were on Nyquist at the 2016 Kentucky Derby, and the Doug O’Neill trainee didn’t disappoint at Churchill Downs on Saturday afternoon.
Ridden by jockey Mario Gutierrez, the three-year-old colt earned his eighth victory in as many races at the 142nd Run for the Roses, beating out a field of 20 horses.

Many were expecting a dominant performance from Nyquist, who has impressed in every one of his races thus far, and that’s exactly what happened. Danzing Candy got off to an expected fast start from the outside and led the early pace, but the impressive horse stayed right behind before making his move and pulling away on the final stretch.
He churned out an extremely impressive final time:
Up next for Nyquist, who has toppled every obstacle thus far and will surely start getting plenty of Triple Crown talk, is the Preakness Stakes on May 21.
