WWE Extreme Rules 2016: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know

Winner: And still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns!

Highlights: AJ and Roman got heated as soon as the bell rang with lockups, strikes and shoves. AJ got Reigns into the corner and got in some nice elbows and kicks, but Reigns shoved him away into the next corner and hit him with several clotheslines. AJ responded with some stiff elbow strikes, but Reigns answered him right back with a jumping knee strike. AJ went outside and grabbed a steel chair, but Reigns knocked him down and stole it from him. Reigns went to strike hi, with it, but AJ dodged it at the last minute. AJ grabbed ahold of Reigns’ feet and pulled him to the outside. Roman looked to hit him with the chair again, but AJ dodged him again. AJ then laid in more elbow strikes and soon clotheslined him right into the crowd. The fight soon went all over the arena.

AJ decided to use a chair and slam it right in Reigns’ gut. Both men fought all the way near the Kickoff table. Reigns used his power to launch AJ back first onto that same glass table. Reigns looked to grab AJ, but AJ kicked him right in the head before he could get him. Then AJ went flying with a Phenomenal Forearm right off the table onto Reigns. AJ then got control of the match again as he struck Reigns over and over. Both men fought all the way back to the timekeeper’s area. AJ threw Reigns head first into the steel ring post and guard barrier. Then AJ ripped off the protective floor padding and looked to land something big: a Styles Clash! Reigns escaped though and landed a swift uppercut on AJ. Reigns then continually slammed AJ’s head into the steel ring steps. Reigns cleared off one of the announce tables and looked to Powerbomb AJ onto it. AJ escaped and punched his way out of Reigns’ grasp. AJ almost landed a Styles Clash on the table, but Reigns escaped once again. AJ ran right at Reigns again, but Reigns back dropped him right onto the announce table behind him.

Reigns wasted no time in getting AJ back into the ring and pinning him, but AJ kicked out. Reigns then landed a nice Splash Mountain Powerbomb on AJ, but AJ still managed to hang on. Reigns went for a Spear, but AJ cut him off by shoving him right in the knees. Reigns went to shove AJ in the ring corner, which worked on the first attempt. On the second attempt though, AJ hit him with a knee and then suplexed him right into the ring corner. Outside the ring, AJ struck Reigns with another knee and then hopped right onto his head. Reigns caught him, slammed his head into the HD ring monitor, did it again to the crowd barrier and then Powerbombed him onto another announce table. When Reigns went for a big Spear, AJ dodged him and caused him to ram himself right through the timekeeper’s area barrier.

AJ shoved Reigns into the ring and then went for his Phenomenal Forearm. But Reigns caught him with a Superman Punch as soon as AJ hopped up onto the top rope. Reigns then left the ring to land a Spear on AJ. Once AJ got put back into the ring, Anderson and Gallows ran out and hit their Boot of Doom on Reigns. However, they were unable to keep Reigns down for AJ to finish him. The Usos then ran out and landed a bunch of Superkicks on Anderson and Gallows. AJ ate a Superfly Splash and almost got beat, but he kicked out of a Reigns pin attempt. Anderson and Gallows then began brawling with The Usos on the outside. Reigns landed two Superman Punches on AJ’s boys and then signaled for the Spear. AJ cut him with off with a kick and dropped Reigns with a swift Styles Clash. Reigns still kicked out! AJ looked to land another one, but Reigns shoved him away. Reigns looked to land another Spear, but AJ cut him off with an Enzuguri. AJ then landed a second Styles Clash and this time it was on a chair. AJ still couldn’t get the winning pin due to one of The Usos grabbing his leg. AJ picked up a steel chair and swung for the fences as he cut down Reigns and his family members. AJ went airborne for another Phenomenal Forearm, but Reigns speared him in midair and got the win. While Reigns was celebrating, Seth Rollins made his shocking return! He immediately landed a Pedigree on Reigns and took hold of the title he never truly lost. The crowd went crazy as Rollins lifted the championship into the air.
