James Rodriguez may be forced to sit out Tuesday night, as Colombia and Paraguay meet in Pasadena.
The Real Madrid winger and Colombia captain suffered a dislocated shoulder in the opener against USA, and manager Jose Pekerman is in no rush to get James back on the field. The opening win put Colombia in the driver’s seat in Group A, meaning Pekerman can play conservative with his lineup and wait for James to recover.
Paraguay couldn’t muster anything in a scoreless draw against Costa Rica in their opening match, and were lucky not to concede a penalty. Paraguay need a positive result Tuesday night to force a win-and-in scenario in their group finale against USA.
Paraguay may be farther down the FIFA rankings than Colombia, but they’re a dangerous team at Copa America. They reached the semifinal for the first time in 26 years at last year’s Copa, and have only missed the knockout phase once since 1991.
