Colombia defeated the United States 2-0 to open up Copa America Centenario. It was not only the first game of Group A, but the first of the tournament as well. It was the only match on opening day.
Paraguay and Costa Rica are the other opening match for Group A. The match starts at 5 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, June 4.
Colombia entered the tournament as the heavy favorite to win the group and picking up three points in their first match puts them at a great advantage. There is no clear cut second team.
Costa Rica had a nice 2014 World Cup, and it would be no surprise if they advance. The United States have been inconsistent, but have the advantage of playing the tournament at home. The United States will likely need at least a win and a result in their next two matches to have a chance of advancing.
Here’s a look at the current Group A standings.
Team | Points |
Colombia (1-0) | 3 |
United States (0-1) | 0 |
Paraguay (0-0) | 0 |
Costa Rica (0-0) | 0 |
