England’s lineup has been criticized in three games at Euro 2016, but Roy Hodgson is expected to field his best men in Monday’s elimination match against Iceland.
The criticism comes from the final game against Slovakia, a goalless draw that dropped England to runners-up in Group B. That forced England into the tougher side of the bracket, allowing group winners Wales an easier route to the final. If Wayne Rooney starts for England, he’ll tie David Beckham’s record for most caps by an outfield player (115).
Iceland haven’t made any lineup changes at Euro 2016, and they’ve done just fine in three matches. At their first-ever major tournament, Iceland went undefeated in three matches, drawing twice and scoring an incredible last-gasp goal over Austria.
These teams have never met for a competitive fixture. They last played a friendly in 2004, when England won 6-1 in a pre-Euro warmup.
