Mexico are two games away from the Copa America final, and put their 22-game unbeaten streak on the line against defending champions Chile.
El Tri cruised in their first two matches, then scored a late equalizer to draw Venezuela and remain unbeaten in Group C. Chile had a more difficult time advancing, losing the opener to Argentina but bouncing back in their final two games.
With the concern over advancing behind them, Chile are contenders to repeat as Copa America champions. They have talent throughout the field, with Claudio Bravo in goal, Vidal in midfield, and Alexis Sanchez up front. Sanchez has been the driving force in Chile’s offense, and scored a brace in their finale win over Panama.
Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio is known for mixing up his lineup, and the quarterfinals should be no different. One constant should be Chicharito, who is one goal away from tying Jared Borgetti’s all-time scoring total for Mexico. Borgetti retired with 46 goals, and Chicharito, who scored twice in the group stage, has 45 heading into the knockout round.
