Box Score

For the second straight major international tournament, Mexico eliminated Jamaica with slightly different circumstances. El Tri came up with the 2-0 victory making it impossible for Jamaica to advance even if they win their third match.

It was a rematch of the 2015 Gold Cup Final. Mexico defeated Jamaica 3-1 to win last year’s Gold Cup.

Chicharito scored on a gorgeous header early in the first half to give Mexico a 1-0 lead. Oribe Peralta scored El Tri’s second goal for good measure late in the second half to give them a 2-0 win.

Mexico battles Venezuela on Monday, June 13 for the Group C title. Both teams will enter the match with six points, and have already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals.

Here’s how Mexico came up with the victory.

Oribe Peralta Made it 2-0 in the Second Half

Peralta came in for Chicharito in the second half and wasted no time getting to work. Peralta scored in the 81′ to give Mexico a 2-0 lead and essentially secure victory for El Tri.

Chicharito Scored on a Beautiful Header

Chicharito jumped up to receive a pass early in the match and finished the play with an amazing header as the ball found the back of the net. Jamaica came out with a solid start in the first 20 minutes of the match but gave up a critical goal early.
