Spain continue their Euro defense Friday against Turkey, days after starting their tournament with a win over Czech Republic. Spain worked hard for the goal against a stout CR defense, finally getting the winner on a late Pique header.
Turkey struggled in their opener against Croatia, leading to captain Arda Turan issuing an apology to Turkish fans. They’ll be in a tough position again, as Spain haven’t lost to Turkey since World Cup qualifying in 1954.
While the passing and attacking of Spain is what people recognize, Vincent Del Bosque’s club have been successful because of great defense. They haven’t allowed a goal at Euro in over 600 minutes, the longest ever streak in tournament history.
And yet VDB might make the only changes between the teams at Allianz Riviera. David De Gea is the starting keeper for Spain, but it’s always good to get captain Iker Casillas some time before the knockout rounds begin.
