Softball can be more exciting than you realize. Down 7-0 in a game against Oklahoma, Auburn came back to tie the game. And in the 8th inning, Emily Carosone, a senior at Auburn, cracked a grand slam to left field to walk-off Auburn with an 11-7 win that forces a Game 3 in the series.
It was an exciting game all around. Tiffany Howard, Auburn left fielder, robbed Oklahoma’s Shay Knighten of a home run with a phenomenal over-the wall catch that would have made Endy Chavez proud.
The celebration went beyond the field as well. Gus Malzahn and Bruce Pearl, Auburn’s respective football and basketball coaches, were in the stands wearing Auburn colors and celebrated wildly. Well, wildly for 50-something head coaches. The pair jumped up and down excitedly, high fiving several in the crowd and eventually each other. It’s a celebration worthy of a wild softball finish.
