USA Swimming Olympic Trials Results: Day 8

The last spots on the 2016 USA swimming team were finalized on Sunday night.

Here’s a look at the results and Rio qualifiers from Sunday:

Women’s 50m Free

19-year-old Abbey Weitzeil has quickly established herself as one of the best short-distance swimmers in the world, and she’ll get two chances to prove that in Rio. She already qualified by winning the 100m free, and she added to that Sunday by clocking the fifth-fastest time in the world this year.

She was followed by fellow 19-year-old Simone Manuel, who also qualifies for her second event, while Madison Kennedy missed out on Brazil by 15 one-hundredths of a second.

Men’s 1500m Free

As expected, Connor Jaeger and Jordan Wilmovsky finished 1-2 without much of a challenge.

Jaeger, who has already qualified in the 400m freestyle, owns the American record in this event and continued his dominance on Sunday night with the fourth-fastest time in the world this year.

He’ll be joined in Rio by Wilimovsky, a distance swimmer who adds a pool event to the 10k open water race he’ll also be swimming Brazil.
