The quarterfinals will shift to Lille on Friday, when Belgium and Wales meet for a spot in the final four.
Since losing to Italy in their opener, Belgium have three wins without conceding a goal. Things could get complicated for the Red Devils, however, with defender Jan Vertonghen out with an ankle injury. Already down two center backs before the tournament started, Thomas Vermaelen is also suspended for Friday’s match. That puts Belgium’s back line in dire straits, forcing manager Marc Wilmots to start some youngsters for this critical fixture.
That’s not the story on the Welsh side, where Ashely Williams was the only injury concern heading to Lille. The captain is recovering from a shoulder injury, but practiced fully and should be ready to start.
These teams met twice in qualifying, with Wales taking four points without conceding a goal.
Today’s winner will advance to play Portugal in the semifinals.
