WWE superstar John Cena is a busy guy, appearing in movies and on television outside of his wrestling work. This requires him to take some time off from the ring every once in a while, and we now have some news regarding when Cena will be taking his next break.
Wrestling Inc is reporting that John Cena will be taking time off starting in mid October of this year. He is then expected to be out of action for most of the rest of 2016.
Cena will be taking this break primarily to film the second season of American Grit, the Fox reality series that he is the host of. That show involves a group of competitors engaging in military-style challenges. The show premiered in April of this year, and in July it was renewed for a second season.
After SummerSlam, when John Cena was defeated by AJ Styles and when he left behind his “never give up” wristband, there was some speculation that this would be the start of his next hiatus. That is apparently not the case, however. Cena did not appear on the most recent episode of SmackDown, which lead to speculation about his absence, but he was actually backstage for that episode, performing in a dark match that evening.
The last time John Cena took a hiatus, it also occurred in October, and it also lasted for most of the remainder of the year. In 2015, Cena lost his title to Alberto Del Rio at Hell in a Cell on October 25th; he then left for two months, returning at the very end of the year on the December 28th episode of Raw.
This upcoming hiatus is expected to last about two months.
