One of Barcelona’s finest products returns to Camp Nou Wednesday for Champions League group play.
Pep Guardiola has done a fine job in his first season with Manchester City, but most of his football career is tied to Barcelona. Guardiola came up in Barcelona’s academy, rose to the first-team, and won a Champions League title as a player. As a manager he was legendary, winning 14 trophies from 2008-2012.
Now he’s on the other side of Camp Nou’s dominant home-field advantage, as City make their annual Champions League visit to Barcelona. The Catalans have been unbeatable at home in the Champions League, posting an 18-2-0 record in their last 20 home outings.
For the lineups, Sergio Aguero is expected to return to the starting lineup for City. He’s the main scoring threat for City, and already has two hat-tricks in European competition this season.
Messi is still working his way back from a groin injury, but he did appear as a substitute for Barcelona over the weekend. Messi hasn’t played a full game since September 17th, when he scored two goals in a Barcelona win over Leganes.
