Chile look to bounce back from last week’s scoreless draw when they host Luis Suarez and Uruguay.
Chile didn’t look as strong last week without Alexis Sanchez, and that could hurt their chances in CONMEBOL qualifying. But the Arsenal winger has been cleared to play this week, bringing a lift to the Chile offense.
Because of Chile’s defensive style, having Sanchez in the lineup is critical for when Chile wants to run. Uruguay doesn’t have the same problem, as their roster is stacked with attacking talent up top. Uruguay got a big win over Ecuador last week; they’ve now won three of four, six straight at home, and are close to the top of the qualifying table.
Chile need this game. They are stuck in the crowded mid-table, and any bad results can push them out of qualifying range. Uruguay only trail Brazil with a total of 23 points, and have some breathing room at six points above the drop.
