Cowboys vs. Steelers: Score, Stats & Highlights

(Getty)

Final Score
Cowboys — 10-3-10-12–35
Steelers — 12-3-3-12–30

The clubhouse candidate for Game of the Year is finished.

You can catch your breath now.

The Cowboys and Steelers exchanged the lead seven times, attempted six two-point conversions, and Ezekiel Elliot finished with 209 yards from scrimmage as the Cowboys keep their win streak alive in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers started strong, jumping out to a 12-0 lead. But it was obvious the grind of Elliot and the Dallas line would be a problem, one that hurt the Steelers most when the game was on the line.

After leading early, Pittsburgh chased the lead for most of the second half. Roethlisberger was outstanding, passing for over 400 yards, and Bell made great plays in the open field. When it looked like Pittsburgh was driving for the winner, Roethlisberger faked a spike to hit Antonio Brown with the go-ahead TD pass.

But it wouldn’t last. Prescott calmly drove the Cowboys down, and Elliot put his final stamp on the game with a 32-yard TD run with only nine seconds remaining.

It’s a tough loss for the Steelers, who drop to 4-5 and slip out of the AFC Playoff Picture. Dallas’ win streak increases to eight games, and they are in the drivers seat in the NFC East.

Game Highlights

ELLIOT BURSTS THROUGH WITH NINE SECONDS LEFT

Wow. What a finish.

The Cowboys got a big boost on the game-wining drive attempt from a 15-yard facemask, and on the following play Elliot explodes through the middle for a 32-yard winner. Dallas goes for the sixth two-point conversion attempt of the game, but again they fail to convert.

Seven lead changes. Dallas gets one more in the final seconds.

FAKE. SPIKE.

Pittsburgh didn’t need long for the comeback. Roethlisberger hits James for 24, and then lines up to spike the ball with 45 seconds left. Instead of spiking, he tosses a lob to Antonio Brown for what could be the game-winning TD.

Elliot Puts Dallas Ahead Late With Another TD

The Cowboys have asserted themselves in the second half, and Elliot rips a 14-yard run to get into the endzone. Two-point conversions have been a theme in this game, and Dallas fails to convert this one to keep the lead at five.

Bell Breaks The Plain & Pittsburgh Retakes The Lead

The Steelers respond with a TD drive, aided by three catches by Antonio Brown. Bell got to the edge on the right side for the score, but the Steelers were once again unable to conver a two-point attempt.

Dallas Takes Their First Lead on Bryant’s TD

After the Cowboys get a strong punt return from Lucky Whitehead, they capitalize on a great play from Dak Prescott. The rookie QB withstood the pressure, and threw an accurate deep ball to Dez Bryant for the score. The momentum is back with the Cowboys heading into the final quarter.

Cowboys 14-Play Drive Comes Up Short

The game has slowed in the second half, as both teams try to establish long drives. Both have done so, but both have been forced to settle for field goals.

Halftime Report

The Steelers lead the Cowboys at halftime, thanks to big plays on offense and a few key stops on defense.

Pittsburgh forced a fumble on the Cowboys’ opening drive, and Roethlisberger hit Bell for the first of two passing TDs in the half. Bell had a solid half, finishing with five catches and over 80 yards from scrimmage.

Dallas were down 12-0 almost immediately, but responded with an 83-yard Zeke Elliot TD. Elliot was the Cowboys’ best player in the half, as Dallas drove the football but were twice forced to settle for field goals.

Eli Rogers has been a standout for Pittsburgh, catching four passes for 42 yards in the half.

The Steelers will receive to start the third quarter.

Ezekiel Elliot Strikes Back For Dallas

The Cowboys needed a big play, and Ezekiel Elliot got one. On a 2nd and 18, Elliot took a screen pass 83 yards to paydirt. It’s a massive play for the Cowboys, who were looking at a potential third and long down by two scores.

Eli Rogers Scoops Roethlisberger’s Second TD Pass

The Steelers offense has started hot, as they go on another touchdown drive in the opening quarter. Rogers caught a deep ball earlier on the drive, and capped it with a low grab while diving into the endzone.

Steelers Score First & Go For Two

Le’Veon Bell is dangerous as a receiver, and he showed great hands catching a touchdown pass on the Steelers’ opening drive. Pittsburgh went for two, but a fade to Ladarius Green fell incomplete.

The Cowboys start with solid gains from both Elliot and Bryant, but their first mistake costs them possession. Prescott is stripped, and Shazier pounces on it for the game’s first big play.

Almost time in Pittsburgh.

If you didn’t already see these check ’em out. Antonio Brown’s cleats have been unreal this season.

Preview

Heinz Field will be rocking Sunday, as the Steelers welcome the hottest team in football to Heinz Field. Dallas has won seven straight, are winners of seven straight, aided by the best running game in football. Dak Prescott has been impressive in his first eight NFL starts, but he’s yet to face a defense on the road like he will in Week 10.

The Steelers defense hasn’t been as dominant as in years past, but will be up to the task of shutting down Ezekiel Elliot this week. Pittsburgh ranks around the middle of the NFL in rush defense, but a sloppy performance against the Dolphins throws of the numbers. The Steelers have held teams under 100 yards rushing five times this season, so it’s more boom-or-bust than the average.

For Pittsburgh, the offense will depend upon the health of Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers QB is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn meniscus, but looked shaky in his return start last week at Baltimore.
