Tennessee State-Duke Preview
A college basketball game in which one team is listed as a 28-point favorite tends to get overlooked this time of year. Programs for the most part have just finished up final exams, and in addition to the holidays there’s conference play to consider so most non-conference games aren’t all that challenging. But in the case of No. 5 Duke’s game against Tennessee State, the possibility of freshman forward Harry Giles III making his debut is a big deal. Giles has undergone three surgical procedures on his knees over the last two-plus years, two for major injuries (a torn ACL in each knee, with a torn meniscus and MCL occurring in the left knee as well).
He’s still regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2017 NBA Draft (should he declare), but there’s still the question of how healthy (and durable) he is to address. With Jayson Tatum and Marques Bolden making their debuts a couple weeks ago, the addition of Giles would complete one of the top two freshman classes in the country (Kentucky being the other). Add in veterans such as Grayson Allen, Amile Jefferson and Luke Kennard, and Mike Krzyzewski’s team will be loaded with talent once all players are available to play.
