DraftKings & FanDuel NHL Lineup Picks, Advice & Analysis for January 4

Wednesday’s NHL schedule features some opportunities for daily fantasy players to make some solid stacks, although the potential for differentiation is limited by there only being six games on the docket.

Stacks

The most obvious stack in today’s options is the Vancouver Canucks’ top line of Jayson Megna/Daniel Sedin/Henrik Sedin. Vancouver is at home against the Arizona Coyotes and their second-to-worst in the league 3.24 goals against average. That line will cost you $14,900 on FanDuel and $13,400 on DraftKings, but if they produce as expected against the suspect Arizona defense/goaltending, they will be well worth the money.

There’s only one team that has been worse in terms of goals against average than Arizona so far this season, and luckily for DFS players, that team is also in action tonight. The Colorado Avalanche’s GAA is 3.35, and the Calgary Flames will face them on home ice tonight. Calgary’s Alex Chiasson/Johnny Gaudreau/Sean Monahan line will cost you a little bit more than Megna/Sedin/Sedin at $17,600 on FanDuel and $17,200 on DraftKings, but the upside couldn’t be bigger.

Four of the bottom five teams in GAA are in action tonight, representing a great opportunity for some stacks. The Winnipeg Jets come into tonight’s road game against the Florida Panthers with a GAA of 3.00. Florida’s Seth Griffith/Jaromir Jagr/Vincent Trochek line will run you $15,600 on FanDuel and $14,200 on DraftKings. Philadelphia enters tonight’s home game against the New York Rangers with a 2.97 GAA, putting the Rangers’ line of Chris Kreider/Derek Stepan/Mats Zuccarello in play with a price tag of $20,200 on FanDuel and $19,700 on DraftKings.

Defensemen to Target

The Rangers’ Nick Holden enters play tonight tied for 10th among all skaters in plus/minus, and only five defensemen currently have a more favorable plus/minus rating than Holden. Philadelphia’s attack is formidable, averaging 2.87 goals per game, but Holden will cost you just $4,300 on FanDuel and $3,700 on DraftKings because of that match-up which appears unfavorable.

Deryk Engelland enters tonight’s game on home ice with a plus/minus of eight on the season, and Colorado’s offense is just as bad as its defense/goalkeeping. Engelland carries a price tag of $3,400 on FanDuel and $3,700 on DraftKings.

Goalie Picks

Montréal’s Carey Price is the obvious play here, as he is facing a Dallas Stars attack that has had a middle-of-the-road season to this point offensively and is himself among the league leaders in both wins and save percentage. He will cost you, however, at $9,900 on FanDuel and $8,100 on DraftKings.

A lower-priced option is Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck ($8,200 on FanDuel and $7,300 on DraftKings), who comes into this game with respectable numbers across the board. The Panther offense is a shadow of what it was last season, ranking 25th in goals scored average.

Good luck to all players, and come back each day for more NHL DFS advice.
