The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2011. Pittsburgh lost 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV. The Steelers trailed 21-10 at halftime and were unable to mount enough of a comeback to overtake the Packers.
Ben Roethlisberger threw for 263 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Mike Wallace had nine receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Just a few years later, the Steelers were victorious in Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Florida. Pittsburgh defeated Arizona 27-23 to raise their sixth Lombardi Trophy.
The Steelers responded to a furious comeback attempt by the Cardinals. Arizona took the lead with just over two minutes to play after entering the fourth quarter down 20-7. Ben Roethlisberger responded with a short game-winning touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds remaining in the game.
Roethlisberger threw for 256 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the victory. Holmes had 9 receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Pittsburgh has eight Super Bowl appearances and has had a high success rate once they reached the big game with six Super Bowl victories. The Steelers have played in the following Super Bowls: Super Bowl IX, Super Bowl X, Super Bowl XII, Super Bowl XIV, Super Bowl XXX, Super Bowl XL, Super Bowl XLIII and Super Bowl XLV.
The Steelers hoisted Lombardi Trophies in all of the games except Super Bowl XLV and Super Bowl XXX.
The 2016-17 Steelers went 11-5 in the regular season. Pittsburgh entered the AFC Championship on a nine-game win streak. Roethlisberger threw for 3,819 yards, 29 touchdowns and 13 interceptions during the season.
Wide Receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell have been a big part of the Steelers success as well. Brown had 106 receptions for 1,284 yards and 12 touchdowns. Bell rushed for 1,268 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 616 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
