With a winter storm affecting travel in the State of North Carolina, in-state rivals NC State and North Carolina have postponed their men’s basketball game that was scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Eastern Saturday night. Per the release, the game will now be played Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Eastern at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
The game will be aired on ESPN, as was to be the case Saturday night. NC State originally made plans to drive from Raleigh Saturday afternoon, but that plan was scrapped due to concern regarding the state of the roads later in the day. The postponement comes one day after Governor Roy Cooper issued a State of Emergency in advance of the winter storm hitting North Carolina.
The governors of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia also declared states of emergency ahead of Winter Storm Helena. The impact of the storm was first felt early this week in the western United States, and according to the Weather Channel cold temperatures are expected to be an issue into early next week.
