POLL: Should Osweiler or Savage Start For Texans In Divisional Round?

(Getty)

The Texans have won their third playoff game in franchise history, and are on to the divisional round. They will travel to either Kansas City or New England, and they will be an underdog in both matchups. Before the Texans take the field next week, they’ll have to make an important decision regarding their starting quarterback.

If Tom Savage clears concussion protocol, it is unclear if Texans coach Bill O’Brien will put Savage back into the starting lineup. Savage wasn’t incredibly effective in his first three NFL starts, and was struggling against Tennessee before leaving the game with a concussion.

Osweiler was benched, and that means that by definition, he should go back to the bench when Savage comes back. But Osweiler had his best half as a Texan in the Wild Card win over Oakland, leading his team to 20 first half points.

Whomever the Texans choose, he won’t be a significantly better option over the other. Both quarterbacks have struggled this season, and Osweiler slowed down in the second half against Oakland. Savage had a solid completion percentage in three starts, but was also sacked ten times over the same span.
