Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Paul Richardson was a relative unknown coming into tonight’s Wild Card game between the Detroit Lions and Seattle on the Seahawks’ home field. He is much more well known now thanks to this touchdown catch.

The situation was that Seattle had the ball facing a 4th and goal on the Detroit two yard line with 7:14 left until halftime. That’s when Richardson made this circus catch to give the Seahawks the first score of the game and its first lead of the 2017 postseason.

While there is some visual evidence that Richardson and the Detroit Lions defender in the play, safety Tavon Wilson, were both making illegal contact on the passing play and by rule, the down should have been replayed due to off-setting penalties, the quality of the catch can’t be downplayed.

On the next Seahawks drive, Richardson made another impressive catch.

During the regular season, Richardson had 21 catches for 288 yards and a touchdown. While he got into 15 games for the Seahawks, he didn’t start any games. Through the first half of the Wild Card game, Richardson has those two spectacular catches for 21 yards and the touchdown as Seattle leads Detroit 10-3.
