Champions League action is back for the first time since December, and it returns with a quality matchup. The reigning champions from France host the reigning Spanish league winners in the first of two legs on Tuesday.
Barcelona have been exceptional in recent weeks, advancing to the Copa del Rey final and winning their previous two league games by a combined score of 9-0. But injuries are mounting for Luis Enrique’s side, even with Gerard Pique returning the starting lineup. Mascherano has been the biggest absence thus far, but the injury to Aleix Vidal leaves Barca thin at the back.
PSG will also be without key players, but their biggest problems lie in the midfield. Thiago Motta is suspended and Javier Pastore is injured, but Marco Verratti will play after recovering from a calf injury. The midfield losses will make it tough on PSG, who have struggled with Barca in recent meetings.
Paris Saint-Germain have advanced past this stage of Champions League each of the last four seasons, but they’ve had little success against Barcelona. The Catalans eliminated PSG from this competition in 2012-13 as well as 2014-15, and have won the last three meetings.
