Busch is going to back to their roots for their Super Bowl debut. Anheuser-Busch’s commercial shows a man wearing flannel standing along a mountain stream. He opens a cold Busch beer, prompting the “Buschhhhhhhhh” sound. A similar approach using the can-crack was used in the company’s 1978 campaign that ran through 2009. In a statement, Anheuser-Busch’s senior director of value brands, Chelsea Phillips, told AdAge, “The goal for our first-ever Super Bowl commercial was to create a spot that was unmistakably Busch. By featuring our iconic ‘stream pull’ and the ‘Buschhhhh’ can-crack sound, we created a relatable and funny spot, expected to resonate strongly with those consumers who have the same values that we do.” Dan Kelleher, the chief creative officer for Deutsch’s New York office, added on, “We’re excited to be reintroducing Busch to the country at the big game. The creative, shot by director Harold Einstein, pays homage to the classic elements of Busch advertising while putting a fresh, comedic spin on it for today.”
After a decline in sales of Busch beers, AB is hoping that their Super Bowl commercial will stimulate demand this year. Deutsch agency, the ad agency behind the spot, was founded in 1969, and recently launched a branded entertainment department, signing Grammy-nominated singer Charlie Puth. The company is known for many projects, including an IKEA campaign that featured the first “identifiable” gay characters.
Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. was founded and is based in St. Louis, Missouri, and operates 12 breweries across the US. The company is the largest producer of beer in the world, and its brandnames include Budweiser, Busch, Michelob, Bud Light, and Natural Light.
AB’s Bud Light “Famous Among Friends” commercial is a friendship focused campaign that doesn’t feature any celebrities. The spot was released in late January, and depicts moments over the course of a lifelong friendship that were accompanied by a Bud Light. The commercial features Spuds MacKenzie, the company’s famous mascot from the 80s.
