Andre Iguodala is taking heat for an interesting post-game interview after the Warriors loss to the Timberwolves. Iguodala ended the interview by saying he would “do what master say”. The response came after a reporter asked him his thoughts on Steve Kerr’s decision to rest some of the Warriors starters against the Spurs on Saturday night.
Earlier in the interview Iguodala uses the N word to respond to another question with a question of his own. “What would dumb N—- say,” Iguodala said. ESPN noted he was frustrated with one of the reporter’s questions. “We gotta score more than the other team. Yep, they want dumb n—-s, so I’m going to give y’all a dumb n—-,” Iguodala said (via ESPN).
He later told ESPN the comments were meant as a joke. He noted it was an inside joke on the team and there was no animosity with Kerr.
“Me and Steve are cool. [People] can think what they want to think,” Iguodala told ESPN.
Iguodala has been filling in for an injured Kevin Durant in the starting lineup. Kerr has plans to rest him along with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson in Saturday’s contest against the Spurs.
Iguodala is playing in his 13th NBA season and 4th season with the Warriors. He is averaging 6.7 ppg, 3.4 apg and 4 rpg this season.
ESPN’s Chris Haynes tweeted that Iguodala was not referring to Kerr with the master comment.
Iguodala responded to Haynes’ tweet by saying “#ForTheCulture”.
Haynes explained the comments on SportsCenter:
